The EDM machine was removed and the male spline
inserted. The team connected an Enerpac RSL20 torque
tool. That torque wrench is capable of 20,000 ft/lbs
of torque. With that much torque, it explains why the
spline fi t and concentricity to the valve stem needed
to be perfect.

With the attention to detail and careful planning on behalf
of all the companies involved, the valve stem rotated and
the correct water fl ow was established, thus eliminating
the need to derate the plant.

The people that work on our emergent response teams

tally demanding conditions. Often in high-temperature,
high-humidity conditions for extended times. They are
committed to working back-to-back 12-hour shifts for

probability of success. They must also be trained to work safely in a radiologically active environment and
the tight quarters of a typical nuclear plant. There is no doubt these are some real EDM Road Warriors!
