Rick Slimp Retirement

[Editor’s note: I had mixed emotions when I learned of Rick Slimp’s retirement. I was of course happy for Rick, seeing

him begin a well-deserved retirement, but I also felt a bit of a loss. At many times during my career, I have reached
out to Rick for help. He was always willing to help, and always seemed to have the answers that I needed. I hope that
everyone in the EDM community will join me in sending best wishes to Rick as he begins the next chapter of his life.]
After a long and distinguished 46-year career with POCO and
Entegris/POCO materials, Rick Slimp has elected to begin a
very well-deserved retirement. Rick started at Poco in Materi-
als and Logistics. His professionalism and customer centric
attitude quickly earned him a promotion to the role of Customer
Service Manager. He then moved into the EDM group, holding
multiple roles until becoming Director of both the EDM and
Glass Forming divisions of Entegris.

Rick, a respected fi xture in the EDM industry, has been instrumental in establishing
POCO EDM materials as the industry standard. Though his contributions to the industry
are many, one of his greatest achievements was the development and refi nement of the
EDM Technical Manual.
Rick worked closely with the R&D team to identify testing goals and develop testing
methodologies to gather data. After many years of test cutting, Rick analyzed and
correlated the data to create the performance charts that are used today as a technical

resource by EDM departments around the world.
The thoroughness of Rick’s work is evident as the EDM Technical Manual has been
adopted as an authoritative technical reference at many universities, colleges, vocational institutes and corporate
training centers. Today, it is estimated that more than 10,000 Poco Technical Manuals are in use today in print, CD,

or PDF version world-wide.
In honor of Rick’s career and contribution to Entegris/POCO, his colleagues and the EDM community, the EDM
training center in Decatur, TX is being renamed the Rick Slimp EDM Technical Training Center. He will be dearly
missed by his Entegris colleagues and customers alike. Although Rick has retired, his work will go on through his
colleagues on the Entegris/POCO EDM Materials team, led by Rob Fothergill, Global EDM Product Manager, and
Marc Sanders continuing as Technical Sales Manager.
