It is somewhat confusing to understand and differentiate a specifi c fl uid’s characteristic from another when review-
ing the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), as the industry does not have a set standardized or format for this information.
Another item to understand is that a new dielectric fl uid’s color does NOT impact its performance. EDM fl uids are
available in clear, blue, green and other colors these days, but any color is most likely merely a way a specifi c
manufacturer uniquely brand’s itself for marketing purposes.
*Note: The SUS (Saybolt Universal Seconds) is an older system that is a metered time measurement of a fl uid’s
viscosity for how long it takes 60 milliliters of fl uid to fl ow through a standardized orifi ce at a specifi c temperature.

Q: Has FANUC expanded their “Smart Programming” to do more than just keyways?
A: They have. With the latest released software (Version 8.0) on
the CiC series RoboCut, you now can cut “Basic Shapes” such as
Hex, D-Hole, Diamond and more. (See Figure 1)

pick your shape. We’ll use a “D” shape for example. Choose if it will
be a punch or die, then whether the shape needs to be rotated. Now
enter the dimensional information, then your approach and glue tab
amount. Enter the number of passes needed, the fi rst cutting condi-
tion number and the program number you wish to use. Lastly, touch
the “Create” icon and your program will be created.
In Figure 3, you can see our example of the “D” shape as graphed
by the program.

If this feature is of interest and your current CiC RoboCut does not display basic shapes, you can contact Methods
Machine or your local distributor to inquire about an upgrade to your current software.
