straightforward results for their clients, MMK offers custom rotary tables, chucks, and the recently added sales of
robotics that do not require complicated installations, but a simple handshake interface.
I asked Sam what else he would like EDM Today readers to know about MMK. Sam replied, saying he would like readers
to know that MMK goes back to 1948 and has many decades of experience designing and building high-quality rotary
tables. Sam added that he would also like EDM Today readers to know that MMK builds rotary tables for much more
than EDM applications. He invites our readers to visit his website to see the breadth of the MMK product offering.

                                   PROTERIAL, LTD.
Although they have a new name, they have been manufacturing EDM wire for a long
time. Many EDM readers have no doubt wondered where the new name came from.
We asked Proterial about it, and they shared the origin of the name. The word is divided into two parts. The fi rst part,
PRO, comes from their three PROs:
          • Professional
            Work That Exceeds Expectations

          • Progressive
            A Spirit That Keeps Challenging
          • Proactive
            An Enterprising Attitude
These three PROs are the essence of Proterial’s Corpo-
rate Philosophy. The second part of the name is based
on what PROTERIAL manufacturers, MATERIAL. The
combined PROTERIAL embodies both the high-perfor-
mance materials and their core values and philosophy.
                                          Proterial has been
in business for more than 100 years. Its primary markets are industrial

infrastructure, automotive, and electronics. Proterial’s EDM wire is manufac-

performance. It is used extensively in Japan, Europe, Asia, and the USA. The
wire is known for its good tensile strength, cutting accuracy, and ability to
promote stable cutting. In my communications with Proterial, I asked how
they achieved this performance. Proterial credits the performance to carefully
selected pure materials, drawing expertise, and high-quality dies developed in
                                          their technical center.
Recently, a 0.016” version of HBZ-K was released that targets large aerospace and power generation parts.
The larger diameter wire allows for higher power and faster

cutting with high levels of accuracy. Proterial is responsive
to forecasts for even larger parts and believes that need for
          larger wire will grow.
Another new wire recently developed is the type HBZ-SS. This
is considered a special wire developed for line mark reduc-
tion and improved surface quality. Another special wire in the
Proterial product offering is the type ABZ wire. This wire is
designed for taper cutting less than 20° angle. A similar wire,
type ABS-A, is considered ultra-soft and developed for taper
cutting between 20° and 45° angles.
