Advanced Conical Example

This example is similar to the standard conical example shown in Figure 1, but notice how the radii are the same
(cylindrical) top and bottom, but the line segments are no longer at the bottom after applying the 5-degree taper.

Q: Our Maxicut MX-246 ZNC EDM Sinker machine has a problem. When we move the Z axis, we get a “large
position error.” Can you help us determine the cause?

A: There can be several potential causes. The error informs you that the pulses sent out by the computer to move
the Z axis do not match the pulses the linear glass scale has sent back. (Continued on next page)
Please check the Z-axis drive for errors and see if it is enabled. It is a simple drive with LEDs to show its status. If
