Q: We have a Sodick Sinker and are not sure how to create an undercut program.
Can you explain?
A: Sure, it’s easy! First, let’s open the LN PRO software on our Sinker EDM.
LNPRO
This page can be found in Edit
Next, click on the undercut icon to generate the program. If you are unsure of what icon to press, you can hover over
the icon with your cursor and a pop-up with the description will appear – see Figure 1. After you choose undercut
“Shape”, go to Mach Plan page – see Figure 2. This is where you will need to input information regarding your
machining: depth, machining material, projected area, roughness, etc.

Select the orbiting pattern based on the shape of your tool. There’s a
variety of options to select in “LORAN select” & “LORAN pattern,” to
get to your desired machining pattern -see Figures 3 and 4.

There is also an option to enable or disable upside finishing for your undercut feature in order to machine certain
locations exclusively – see Figure 5.
After this, complete
the program as
usual.

Q: We have a Titan i40c machine with
tool changer. I am running a multi-hole

program file. When I start the program,
the machine returns the electrode I have
loaded (Tool 1), then inserts the second
electrode and starts the program. What isthe cause of this?
A: The most likely cause would be a mismatch between the
diameter specified in the E code and the diameter specified in the Tool
Length page. When the program is started, the machine will verify that
the loaded electrode diameter matches the diameter in the E code.
Whenever running a program, it is a good practice to make a final
verification that the E code diameter matches the diameter in the
“Tool Length” page to avoid any unexpected tool changes.
Check E Code in in the “PRO” area. In Figure 1, the example of

E Code 7 is used.
