A: Low fl ow into the work tank during the EDM process is caused by one of three things: EDM Today Magazine

Q: We have a Maxicut MX-236 ZNC EDM Sinker. We recently noticed that the oil level in the tank dropped, but
the machine continued to run. We stopped the machine and noticed the oil fl ow into the tank was low. We checked
the recirculation valve, and it is open. What would cause the low oil fl ow into the tank?
1) The most common cause is dirty fi lters. If the fi lters are not continually changed, the fl ow through them will

diminish to a point where the work tank level cannot be held.
2) The recirculation valve is set incorrectly for the application. It is important to be sure the valve is set to
supply enough fl ow through the electrode and fi xture; the remaining should be directed to the recirculation
port of the tank by adjusting the recirculation valve.
3) The least likely cause, but it does happen on older machines, is the fl ush pump, which may be worn and
unable to deliver the required fl ow and pressure.
We suggest you start by checking/changing the fi lters, as this is the most probable cause of the low fl ow.
Q: Why would my Maxicut MX-236 ZNC EDM Sinker
continue to run when the oil tank level is low?
A: The machine should shut down the EDM process

if the “level” mode is turned on – see Figure 1.
This is normally selectable from the F2 Function key
on the keypad. When this mode is on, the machine will
not start until the working level fl oat is reached and
will shut off the EDM process if the level drops during
the process. Please confi rm this feature is on.
If an Operator error turns this off, you can go into
system mode and “lock” it on so the Operator cannot
intentionally or accidentally turn it off.

To do this, enter the password – see Figure 2. This may
be something you have set, or it may be at the factory
default 111111 if you have never changed it.

Then go to system mode and turn on the “level”
parameter – see Figure 3.
Then, save the system fi le. Now the machine will
always be in “level” mode and cannot be turned off
unless the system parameter is changed back.
