Q: We have an SY-4050TGR CNC Small Hole EDM drill that we run unattended utilizing the optional
30-position electrode changer. Occasionally, we have run into issues when we have set it up to run through
all 30 electrodes. For instance, if one of the electrodes does not fl ush or was installed in the holder incorrectly,
we have a misload or overtime error, which causes the machine to stop,
and we do not get the desired run time.
We have determined this is most often caused by the Operator
misloading the electrode in the holder. Is there a way we can check or
test the electrodes for good fl ush and proper load into the holder
          without tying up the machine?

A: Yes, there is. We offer an electrode test station. This is a standalone
table with a spindle, high-pressure pump electrode setting station, and
          electrode rack.
This allows for replacing the electrode in the holder and then checking the
fl ush through it as well as the runout of the electrode as it spins. This will
catch any pinched or off-center loaded electrodes before they are put into the
electrode changer avoiding a stop in the process while running unattended.

Q: I would like to know how much wire is left on the spool. Is there any way to see that?
A: Yes, you can check the amount of remaining wire by
checking “Consumable life” on the display – See Figure 1.

          1. Wire Information Setup: Ensure the wire information is
correctly set on “Wire Information” page. Verify the wire
diameter, material and weight. “Machine monitor”

          2. Navigation: Press “Maintenance”
“Consumable life”. The remaining amount of wire is at
          the right lower corner.
If you replace with a new spool, press reset soft key
) in the remaining wire window. This will reset the length
          (
of remaining wire and cutting time.
If you have a used spool on the machine, use a scale to
weigh the spool. Press the “calculation of wire remain” soft
          key (
). Enter the weight, and information will be updated
          immediately.
