EDM Today Magazine Dwight Tanaka indicated that a trend they are seeing is customers coming with
turnkey projects. They need to make a specifi c part and want their vendor to
provide a complete solution, even writing the programs and certifying the part.
Current EDM can provide that level of support.
As the visit with Current EDM ended, I asked what they would like EDM Today
subscribers to know about Current EDM, which has not already been discussed.
Ed thought for a minute and stated, “I would like customers to know of our

Ebbco was all around IMTS. It seemed many of the booths I visited had ma-
chines with Ebbco fi ltration. Ebbco had a large booth again for 2024. Locat-
ed in the North building, the Ebbco booth featured many examples of their
fi ltration technology for metalworking. Within the EDM community, Ebbco is
regarded as the go-to company for every type of EDM fi ltration – Wire, Sinker, and Small Hole.
Ebbco’s EDM Product
Manager Dyana Herr-
mann welcomed me
into the booth. One of
the newest technologies

that Dyana discussed
was their fi lter systems,
designed for aluminum
fi ltration. As those of us
who cut aluminum know,
it creates large particles
with fast cutting speeds
that can signifi cant-
ly limit fi lter life. The
new Ebbco offering tackles the problem by providing a unique dual fi ltration approach. There is a coarse fi lter that
removes particulate directly from a work tank loop. After coarse fi ltration, a second fi lter down to the typical 5 µm

range provides clean fl ush to the electrode. This system offers the benefi t of a cleaner work tank and a longer time
between fi lter maintenance, which results in higher productivity. Dyana added that if the EDM cuts aluminum, using
the correct fi ltration system is an easy business case to make.
We also talked about Small-Hole EDM fi ltration. Ebbco has developed a system that is optimized for the demands of
Small-Hole EDM. For the high accuracy requirements demanded in many applications, the system can be provided
with both chilling and heating to keep the dielectric temperature inside a narrow range, assuring consistent hole size.
The system can be supplied with a DI resin system and conductivity control for water-based machines. It can also
support oil-based machines and is compatible with most EDM oils – even the extra-thin, low-viscosity oils common
for micro-hole drilling.
Many in the EDM community also face challenges with grinding fi ltration. One of the centerpieces of the Ebbco booth
was their Evomatic backwashing fi ltration system. Developed for grinding applications, this fully automatic system

provides in-process backwashing and allows 24/7 operation. It features a very long fi lter life and is available with
