just the cutting speed? Chris stated no, while fast cutting is important, other
things contribute to productivity. One example is the ability to hold up to 700
electrodes internally. Another example is automation. The Winbro EDM drill
comes automation-ready. Winbro will install whatever tooling system their
customer chooses. The machine is fl exible to support either front loading
or top and side loading. This allows the machine to adapt to really whatever
automation is in place. So, in defi ning productivity, a combination of cutting

EDM Today Magazine I asked Chris about compatibility with CAD/CAM systems. He explained that
speed, internal storage, and fl exible automation allows the Winbro EDM drills
to achieve such high productivity rates.
Winbro equipment is CAD indifferent. It works with Mastercam, Esprit, and
other popular systems.
I asked Chris to discuss Winbro’s history. He stated that, last year, Winbro
celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 2019, Winbro was acquired by Quaser and
became part of the Quaser Group. Winbro is headquartered in the U.K., and
research and development are done in the USA.
As I concluded my visit to the Winbro booth, I asked Chris if there was

anything else he would like EDM Today readers to know about Winbro. He
responded that he would like our readers to know that Winbro makes the
world’s most sophisticated EDM drilling system and is now expanding into new markets. He invites customers who
need EDM drilling to take a look at what Winbro has to offer.

YCM ALLIANCE BOOTH 339033
Once again, at IMTS 2024, the YCM Alliance had one of the largest booths.
As most EDM Today readers know, the YCM Alliance is a group of like-minded

companies that work together to provide complete applications-based systems
to solve the toughest manufacturing challenges.
It is a great concept. If the booth
traffi c was any indication, it is
a concept that’s working. The
applications focus area includ-
ed general parts machining,
die-mold machining, and ultra
high-precision machining. During
my visit to the YCM Alliance

booth, I could have been there
all day looking at the variety of
equipment on display. I would
have liked to do that, but it was a
busy IMTS and I had a number of
booths to visit.
I sat down with Robert Mooers,
President of RKM Marketing.
His company provides marketing strategy and marketing services to the YCM Alliance. Robert walked me through
the booth. Our fi rst stop was a fl exible manufacturing cell featuring a model CF7G high-speed milling machine paired
with a YCM robot for workpiece storage. Robert indicated that this work cell is confi gured for cutting graphite. It is a
5-axis confi guration with a 4th and 5th-axis Lehman trunnion table.
