When it comes to EDM Drilling, Titan EDM has one of the most comprehensive
product offerings in the industry. Titan had a great booth location in the South
building and certainly had a lot of booth traffi c.
Titan President Paul Sciarratta met with me. We sat down and
talked about their new product offerings. One of their newest
product offerings debuting at IMTS is their oil-based EDM drill

machines. These high-performance machines are designed with
carbide in mind and support electrode sizes down to 0.003”.
Another new offering
at IMTS is Titan’s
5-axis machine. This
series features a
U.S. designed and
built frame. The
spark generator was
designed and built by Titan engineers in the USA. It includes a
powerful Omron Delta Tau based motion control subsystem that is

8-axis capable. The servo drives are Omron EtherCAT based to assure
the fastest possible response. EtherCAT also reduces the complexity
of wiring, which improves reliability.
The Omron control supports sophis-
ticated volumetric compensation such that each axis is calibrated, not only based
on its own position, but also based on the position of the other axes. This creates
exacting positions anywhere within the work cube.
The machine demonstration at IMTS included an MMK SAT 100 A/B axis rotary
table. The electrode can be used for part pickup, or if ultra-high levels of accuracy
are needed, a Renishaw probe can be used.
For Titan’s aerospace customers, the power supply is designed for fast and easy

calibration for NADCAP and the more restrictive OEM standards.
The machine at IMTS was displayed with transparent sides on the base to
show the electronics inside. The entire package is very compact and uses
minimal fl oor space.
Titan had seven machines on display
in total. This represents just a small
portion of their machine offerings.
The booth had machines that ranged
from ultra-high-end CNC models to economical manual machines and
everything in between.

Paul Sciarratta stated, “We have increased the breadth and depth of
our EDM portfolio to meet our customers' varied and ever-changing
requirements.” He added, “Simply put, we have a solution for every need,
regardless of how simple or complex.”
As my visit wrapped up, I asked Paul if there was anything he wanted
EDM Today readers to know about Titan. He said he would like people to
know that Titan is more than a machine builder. Titan also has a com-
plete line of high-quality consumables. The electrodes are batch-tested
with a laser micrometer to ensure consistency and accurate hole sizes.
Titan has a large stock of consumables ready for immediate shipment. Paul hopes that customers will try Titan’s
