TEK4
Founded in 2002 in the United Kingdom, TEK4 manufactures Fast Hole EDM Drilling, Laser
Drilling, Laser Ablation, and eSTEM Drilling. Upon entering the booth, I was met by Ben Pratt,
TEK4 Vice President, and Doug Fleming, Aftermarket
Manager. They showed me their model GT Fast Hole
EDM. I asked what features were unique. Ben ex-
plained the most unique thing about the GT machine

is that it combines Fast Hole EDM Drilling and optional
Laser Ablation in one machine. Doug stated that it is a
perfect fi t for gas turbine and aerospace applications
with a reduced conductivity coating that would impact
EDM drilling. The machine itself looked great. Of
course, it was completely sealed and quite compact.
Ben explained that the machine is available in four
different sizes.
Ben added that TEK4 equipment includes some very
nice features. They include automatic guide and
electrode changing, advanced breakthrough detection

to prevent backwall strikes, and CMM probing for high
accuracy drilling.
We talked a bit about the industry’s need for automation. Doug said TEK4 integrates complete robot systems for
loading parts, fi xtures, and electrode cartridges. Their automation options also include automatic identifi cation of all
parts, fi xtures, and electrodes.
I asked Ben to tell me a bit about TEK4. He replied that TEK4 is headquartered in the UK; however, they recently
opened a U.S. technical center in Greenville, South Carolina. That facility conducts customer training, demonstrations,
and Research and Development. He added that TEK4 is expand-
ing. They serve markets in Europe, Asia, and North America.
To date, they have more than 300 machines in service. Their

ly in-house at their Greenville, South Carolina Technical Center.
Doug added that he believes North American customers will
come to regard TEK4 as global leaders in Fast Hole EDM drilling.
He stated that with their combination of laser ablation and EDM
