It is always pleasant to visit Transor at IMTS. As I entered the
booth, I was met by an old friend, Tom Wagner, Transor’s Vice
President of Operations. We were joined by Jonathan Guo, Transor’s Executive Vice President and Director of
Engineering. I asked them what was new with Transor.
Jonathan showed me one of their newer products designed for
high-speed steel grinding. It uses a magnetic pre-fi lter to remove

the larger pieces of ferrous particulate, which then passes through
Transor’s 1µm absolute fi ltration system. The result is pristine
clean oil that is fi ltered in very high volume.

                                                still available and has
many new standard features to make it better than before. Tom showed

me a redesign of an EDM fi lter that showed a standard drag-out, which
delivers debris to a collection bin or drum. This allows the fi lter to run
continuously 24/7, as it is a simple matter to swap out the external bin
                                                during operation.
                                                Jonathan also showed me an
                                                update to their control. They
now use a touchscreen HMI terminal for easier operator interface. The HMI
provides operational status and lets users adjust timing settings much more
easily. The bright, colorful display is a nice touch.
I asked Jonathan and Tom what else they would like EDM Today readers to
know about Transor. Jonathan expressed readers should know that they have

great oil products for both EDM and grinding. Their US1 EDM oil is proven to
provide exceptional performance in the Transor units to give their users great EDM cutting performance. US1 is a
Norpar 15 equivalent that mixes readily with Norpar 15.
Their TransoGrind TG250 grinding oil is clear, odorless, and very operator-friendly. Its low viscosity promotes
highly effi cient grinding, particularly with carbide. TransoGrind EXP is a synthetic product that offers improved heat
dissipation and faster cycle times. Both TransoGrind variations are available in a “Plus” formulation that includes an
additive package with several options, including a signifi cant reduction of burn marks.
Tom added that using Transor oils will maximize the life of the Transor fi lter elements.
Although I must say that I miss Irv Kaage, who recently retired, it looks like Transor is in good hands under the leader-
          ship of Jonathan and Tom.

On Wednesday morning at IMTS, I attended a press event at the VOLLMER booth.
Many of my trade magazine colleagues were present. We were given a presenta-
tion on a new deburring technology. As I watched this presentation, I began to get excited. I saw tremendous
potential for this new technology for the EDM community. I may have been the only person in the booth who saw a
          connection to EDM.
Many people will say that EDM cuts without leaving a burr. I suppose compared to the burr that might be left by a ¾”

2-fl ute endmill, the EDM edge looks clean, but those who do semiconductor, medical, or aerospace work would likely
disagree. An EDM cut does leave a slightly ragged edge.
