I asked Mishal what else he might like EDM Today readers
to know about his wire offerings. He replied that readers
should know that NICK EDM is proud of their quality and
knows that it competes among the best in the world. He
also wanted to let readers know that they are willing to sell
direct for pallet loads. He concluded that customers could
get a great price on great wires. Being a relatively smaller
wire maker, they have the fl exibility of tailoring products to

oelheld had a nice corner booth location in the North building. In the booth was
Steven Lowery, Executive Vice President of oelheld’s U.S. operations. Also in
attendance was Philipp Storr, Managing Partner from the oelheld headquarters

in Germany. Although the booth was busy, oelheld had enough staff that Philipp and Steven were able to sit down
with me to discuss what’s
new with oelheld.
Philipp told me that there
is a new dielectric fl uid that
was recently developed. It
will be marketed under the
name of IonoPlus IN. This
product is designed for high
performance when cutting
many high nickel aerospace

“superalloys,” such as Inco-
nel. Unfortunately, this news
is somewhat of a tease.
Although the product does
exist, it is not yet available
for sale. It is currently being
vetted in the marketplace and
is being tested with a small
group of customers. Philipp
revealed that we should con-
sider it “coming soon.”
Steven indicated that oelheld

is seeing increasing demand for its IonoPlus ET. In this version of IonoPlus, ET stands for Extra-Thin. The viscosity of
this oil is only 1,4mm2/s. As micro hole and small hole EDM drilling become more popular for use with EDM oil, this
product is the perfect fi t. Steven added, it is actually thinner than room temperature water, so fl ushing is much more
effective. Considering the non-corrosive nature of oil vs water, it is likely this will be a very popular product.
For those customers who are EDM drilling in water, oelheld offers two products that provide temporary corrosion
protection. IonoVit 0 is a water based product with additives to support high-quality drill results for electrode
diameters down to 0.004”. It is a ready to use product with no mixing required.
For larger holes that are down to 0.020”, IonoVit S is a good choice. It offers temporary corrosion protection for
ferrous metals. It is also suitable for the machining of aluminum.
