One of the most clever displays that
MC Machinery had was a putting chal-
lenge. Who does not like to putt? But
what was clever about this display is
that the putter head was made using
a combination of Mitsubishi’s AZ600
wire-laser 3D printer and fi nish machined
on the Eagle V9.

The putting challenge attracts people,
and they learn about the technologies
that made the putter. Very clever!

NICKUNJ EDM WIRES & CONSUMABLES Booth 339382
Mishal Shah, Managing Director and CEO, welcomed me into the NICK EDM
booth. They are a manufacturer of premium EDM wire and are expanding

rapidly. Mishal stated that, prior to 2022, their production was distributed almost
exclusively within India – which is a large market. In 2024, they have been supplying premium wire to Europe and
looking to expand into North America.
They currently have production capability to pro-
duce 1,500 tons of wire per year. In 2024, they have
produced 700 tons of EDM wire and another 300
tons of specialty wire. Of the 700 tons of EDM wire
produced, approximately 70% has been coated wire.
They offer two types of plain wire. The KC line is a
premium standard brass wire that provides reliable
performance on all machines and is suitable for

taper or straight cutting. It comes in all-weather
packing and offers exceptional cleanliness. The MK
line is premium brass with a higher copper content
as a substitute for Japanese/European super brass
wires. It gives 10% more speed in comparison to
standard brass wires and is suitable for all ma-
chines. Both wires’ tensile strength can be tailored
based on specifi c requirements.
Mishal explained that NICK EDM currently makes six different types of coated wire, with some being well suited to
specifi c machine brands. RC, FN and FN+ are all A-type wires with varying ratios of Cu and Zn. FN is an aggressive
zinc coated gamma wire which gives excellent speed and surface fi nish. FN+ is a higher Cu core wire with a special

coating for very high-accuracy surface requirements. Its soft version is widely used on VOLLMER machines for car-
bide cutting.
NZ is a CuZn20 core double-coated gamma-D wire which works across all machines and gives at least 50% more
speed than brass. The hard version is comparable to most HEAT/D/G type European coated wires and works perfect-
ly for auto-threading. The soft version is a proven substitute for most X-type wires. It is widely used in Switzerland for
gear cutting in 0.016”.
Rounding out the list is the MP line, which is a specially treated gamma wire developed for Japanese, Taiwanese, and
South Korean machines that prefer only brass wires. On standard brass technology, the wire can give up to 20% more
speed with exceptional surface accuracy. On coated technology, the performance improves considerably. Its modi-
fi ed version, MPM, is more aggressive and is widely used for production jobs that require single passes or rough cuts.
Many gear manufacturers in Europe prefer this wire in higher diameters (up to 0.016”) for their aggressive burns.
