EDM Today Magazine I asked Steven and Philipp what they would like EDM Today readers to know

about oelheld that they may not know. Steven answered fi rst and expressed
that people know oelheld for its high-performance products such as IonoPlus,
but sometimes there are budget limitations, or basic work that does not need
the performance of IonoPlus. Steven would like our readers to know that there
is an oelheld product called EcoSpark 105. It is a semi-synthetic product with
low odor and reduced evaporation as compared to natural oils.

ROEDERS OF AMERICA Booth 339386
Roeders is quite likely one of the oldest companies exhibiting at IMTS. While the exact

date is unknown, Jasper Röders started his company in roughly 1800, not long after the
signing of the Declaration of Independence in the USA. Six generations of the Röders
family have led the company to what it is today.
When I entered the Röders booth, Bill Raye,
President of Hitech Machinery Sales, greeted
me. Hitech is the exclusive dealer for Röders in
Illinois. Matt Byers, Vice President of Roeders
of America, joined us. We sat down to discuss
what’s new and where Röders sees the market
heading. Matt was very pleased with the show.
He shared that IMTS 2024 has been one of their

best shows with great interest in their equipment.
On display in the booth was Röders model
RPT600. This machine is FAST, with a feed rate
of up to 60,000 mm/min with a standard spindle
speed of 42,000 RPM. Obviously, those specifi ca-
tions make it ideal for cutting hardened steel and
graphite. I asked Matt what is unique about the
machine and Röders technology. He explained
that, from the start, they are designed to be reli-
ably precise. I asked Matt to expand on that concept. He replied saying that today a lot of equipment can list impres-
sive accuracy specifi cations, but those specifi cations are under ideal conditions. The reality is that the demands of a
typical production environment can subject the machine to variations in ambient temperature. The nature of the part

and the demands placed on the machine based on the tool path will impact the machine, particularly over time. To be
reliably precise means to offer high precision over the long term and within a production environment.
Wanting to dive deeper into this, I asked Matt for some examples of what Röders does to ensure precision. He gave
the example of spindle growth. It is a fact that even with spindle cooling, the spindle will grow in length slightly based
on temperature change. Considering that Röders offers spindle options to 80,000 RPM, it is a reality that there will
be spindle growth. Röders provides an option of an advanced spindle compensation feature that aids spindle cooling
by automatically adjusting the Z position based on even small temperature changes. The result is Z-axis accuracy
to the sub-micron level. Another example of a design that supports reliability is making the electrical enclosure a
standalone cabinet that sits next to the machine rather than being attached to it. This simple change isolates the
electronics from the vibrations produced in the machine. It is a simple design feature, but one that signifi cantly
improves reliability.
